About Andrew Raguse

Fascinated with nature and wildlife for as long as I can remember… so pretty much my entire life. I love the outdoors and being away from the everyday hustle & bustle of life, work & society, with the almost endless alure of exploring new worlds, roads less travelled and unknown areas with the opportunity to capture these experiences through photography. I hope that through sharing my collection of images that l can help give people a true & authentic, but natural understanding of what we as a somewhat alpha species, need to protect for our future generations to come. I don’t profess to know how we do that, just keen to capture what is there…

Photography

From a full time hobby to a part time obsession, I began by wanting to capture my interactions with wildlife while bush walking, as well as the simple but somewhat unique experiences that filled my life. I started taking photos back in 2007 with what I’d now consider a starter pack from the camera house, but what all those years ago was to my mind, my ticket to a whole new world. I currently use Canon equipment including Canon EOS R5, 5D IV, Cameras and an assortment of lenses. This equipment and these opportunities allows me to create those rare but immensely valuable occasions where I can return home to family & friends, after seeing something or having experienced something for the first time in my life, and have it captured forever… truly nothing better.

I’ve been blessed through the winning of a number of awards over time, including being named in the Top 20 Australian amateur photographers of the year in 2019, A Grade Photographer of the year in Toowoomba Photo Society; Numerous FIAP awards from global salon competitions and local shows. While the awards and compliments are amazing and as corny as it may sound, the knowledge of memories caught on film and able to be relived and shared, and to be the custodian of those images; is the honour and accolade I treasure above all. My focus is to venture freely into the ever-changing environment and attempt to interact with and capture wildlife in their own habituate. These experiences, these special and often fleeting moments with the wide array of species we share the planet with are absolutely my priority; but if time and opportunity allow, I will take advantage of Landscapes where available. Be it wildlife or amazing views & surroundings, I must confess to having created a lofty ‘Bucket list’ to pursue in years to come… being; the amazing Snow Leopard, the mysterious Comodo Dragon, families of the almost human Orangutans, and lastly… the beautifully fierce but fragile Jaguar.

Why Snapped BY Goose? Well almost all my family and friends refer to me by my nick name of Goose. So, what better way then to add it into my Photography name.

A great mentor and supporter to me over the years has been Mark Rayner from Trekabout Photography. His immeasurable advice and enduring guidance has and continues to mould the photographer I am, and the quality of the images I am able to secure. To travel to overseas destinations with him and to continue to learn and produce better images is a reflection of the genuinely terrific support he has provided since I first started; with some of my fondest memories being from that day till this. Thank you, Mark…
